This winter shoot was absolutely stunning. The whole thing just fell into place exactly how I'd planned and I was absolutely thrilled with the results.

Rebekah keeps her two horses, Rupert & Harvey, on a gorgeous livery yard in the grounds of Newstead Abbey in Nottinghamshire.

Rupert Boy is her 10 year old Chestnut ex racehorse, and Harvey is her 20 year old New Forest pony. Of course we also included her gorgeous Doberman, Orion (there was no way this handsome boy was getting left out!).

We'd planned a gorgeous frosty sunrise shoot in the middle of winter to try and create something a little different - at a time of year where horse people would usually say absolutely no to photos, Rebekah totally embraced the challenge and got up at 5am to get her horses all ready for me.

Rebekah took me for a little tour of her yard and we picked a few locations to shoot at.

We started just before the sun came up, so at the first location we got the most gorgeous blue hour shots on a big frosty tree lined path, and as we continued the sun poked through the woodland behind us. You can see Rupert watching the deer closely in his photos (thanks deer! Made my job much easier!). We paired the early images with a gorgeous bright pink blazer, then switched to a cape and fluffy boots with a slightly different background as the sun came up.

A quick hug of the electric blanket in the tack room and we moved onto a couple shots with Harvey. For this we went with something a little different, white jeans, black blazer & boots and a pink jumper. Adding hats and belts can add a lovely bit of variety during a shoot and they're really easy little adjustments to make.

To finish off we headed down the drive to get some of all 4 of them together, we kept them on the hard standing and I ventured into the ploughed field to get the gorgeous morning sun twinkling through the trees behind them. We went for a more colourful look, and added a hat to finish off the shoot.

Of course we were a bit chilly by the time we'd finished so we sat in the kitchen and enjoyed a nice warm cuppa under the electric blanket at the end to warm up! Totally worth the cold for the results though - I'm absolutely thrilled with them.

Also a little life hack for anyone who wants a shoot in winter - bringing an electric blanket to keep clothes warm between outfit changes is a genius idea that I'll be recommending to everyone from now on!

We created a beautiful set of 3 images to work together on the wall in Rebekah's home which will look gorgeous and bring back lots of happy memories for a long time.
