Megan's two beautiful show ponies have been a source of great companionship over the years.

I have known Megan for a few years now, after being trusted with capturing some special memories of her late pony Spirit before she said goodbye, it was a privilege to be trusted again. This time with capturing some very special images of another (slightly different) goodbye - this time we were waving her loan mare, Fran, off to her new home.

We had a very misty morning in Derbyshire for this shoot. You could barely see a few metres in front of you in the beginning, which did make shooting a little tricky at that time of the morning. Luckily for me these images are all about Megan's relationship with her horses, which is what any equine photoshoot is about.

Megan had picked out a lovely selection of outfits, and so we went through each option and paired it with a location on the yard. We chose to start out the front of the yard; their yard entrance is on a very quiet lane that's also a public footpath. We had fun dodging the various "photobombers" that were out walking their dogs early that Saturday morning. It always makes me giggle how people scatter when they see a big camera pointing at them.

Fran & Boris coped really well with all the passers by, Megan smashed it, too!

This shoot was a real team effort, a huge helping hand from her partner, James, and best friend, Harriet, who helped with holding ponies and Megan's dog, Rex, outfit changes and doing all the star jumps behind me to get the horse's ears forward!

We did some images with each horse individually and together, before moving to the stable area. I love these cuddly shots in the stable doorway. The blacked off dark background brings all the focus onto horse and owner, the real stars of the show.

Her partner James got involved in some of the images as well - the men always secretly enjoy being dragged into the frame, they will pretend they don't want to be a part of it but they soon start enjoying themselves (trust me!).

I really enjoyed capturing all the different combinations of images for them.

Some horses are meant to be with us forever, and some are just passers by but they leave fresh hoofprints in our heart all the same.

As I said before it's such a privilege to be trusted with capturing moments like this. I know Megan now has the most beautiful images to remember her time with Fran by, and a gorgeous frame of Boris that will last a lifetime, too.

If this shoot has inspired you to capture some of your own images like this, then please get in touch.

You can make a million excuses that now isn't the right time, but whether you'd like to capture some special memories and celebrate your time spent with a horse, or maybe you want your bond with your horse celebrating for what it is, then an equine photoshoot is the perfect way to do so.
