Tilly, Quasi & Ted

I had the pleasure of going to Tilly's home in Nottinghamshire back in April to photograph her and her two ponies, Quasi & Ted.

Quasi is a gorgeous bay showjumping pony, and Ted is their lovely homebred youngster. It's always fun keeping the younger horses entertained during their shoot, I like to keep things moving for them so they don't get bored. I do this through different locations and poses, allowing them to have regular breaks in between and letting them walk a circle if needed.

We did a couple of outfit changes for Tilly, we kept it quite casual. I loved her gorgeous pink knitted jumper with both ponies being bay, and so we started with a walking shot on the driveway, before coming back to the yard area and stables.

With spring fully sprung, the blossom tree in their front garden was in full bloom. I loved pairing this with Tilly's pink jumper, so we took advantage and did a few photos in front of the blossom tree.

Tilly's dad had very kindly put a big round hay bale out in the field for her to sit on, so we did some images with both ponies here with the house in the background. It was clear to see Ted's cheeky baby personality shine through when he was stood with Quasi, he really made me giggle. It was like we had one sensible pony and then the silly one.

We did some lovely shots to finish in the hay barn doorway, the paddock and school. It's clear how much joy Tilly gets from her ponies as she's grown up, it reminded me of my own childhood with my pony.

I love natural images and being more of an observer when I'm taking images for my clients. I pick out beautiful locations, then let my clients just be with their horses.

I always say if you've not experienced the bond with a horse, it's so hard to put the emotions into words. I love to capture that, something that will always remind you of those warm fuzzy feelings that horses bring us daily.
